Dream Achiever Omar Cortez couldn’t be happier after graduating from Texas A&M-Kingsville University with a Bachelors in Agricultural Science. But more than halfway through college, Omar set his sights on becoming a Game Warden after interning with the Texas Game Warden Law Enforcement Internship Program. Omar even padded his major with added criminal law classes to give him a better shot at being accepted into the highly competitive program. Unfortunately, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Game Warden Academy has been temporarily closed. Presently, Omar has a six -month position as a Plant Protection and Quarantine Aid with the USDA Plant Health Inspection Service Division. In Omar’s words, “Even though my graduation did not go as planned, I was able to have a moment of reflection on my greatest achievements and struggles. I realized how grateful I am for everything I have gone through and the people I have met. I would like to thank the Dream Come True Foundation and my mentors because they have each shown a lot of support when I least expected it.” Omar still plans to apply for the Game Warden Academy unless a better opportunity comes his way. DCTFST will continue to follow this ambitious young man as he moves forward with his career.
