Meet Alfred Domingo (pictured right with Austin Mayor Steve Adler), our first Skilled Trades Path Dream Achiever. Alfred graduated high school in San Antonio, Texas but moved soon to Oklahoma City, where he joined the Army National Guard as a Chemical Specialist. He was quickly recruited for a scout sniper platoon. In 2011-2012 he was deployed to Afghanistan, where he faced many different types of adversity. Upon his return from his deployment, he moved back to San Antonio to help his family. He also enrolled in school and proceeded to earn his Associates’s degree in Drafting and Design. He decided that he enjoyed working with his hands and outdoors when possible. He was looking for the right opportunity, and Dream Come True took advantage of the perfect alignment of several different groups at the ideal time to place Alfred in a great position with an incredible future. Alfred is now The Dream Come True Foundation’s first “Skilled Trades” Dream Achiever, working as an apprentice for The Porter Company, the second-largest mechanical contractor in central Texas.
The Skilled Trades Path program is designed for military veterans transitioning from military to civilian life. Working closely with the National Guard’s Job Connection Education Program (JCEP) and the Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 286, The Dream Come True Foundation has now been able to identify and place five incredibly driven and talented vets with local contractors.
